TYLER, TX – Valencia Hotel Collection is proud to announce the official acquisition of property on the newly expanding Square in downtown Tyler, Texas, to build a new full-service hotel designed as a reimagining of the old Blackstone hotel of yesteryear. This marks a major milestone in the group’s continued expansion. Slated to become another addition to the Valencia Hotel Collection, Hotel Blackstone will open as a high-profile, boutique property and a Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott.
Located at the Northeast corner of Broadway and Ferguson Streets, the new Hotel Blackstone will pay homage to one of Tyler’s most iconic landmarks. The original Blackstone Hotel, which first opened its doors in November 1922, stood as the crown jewel of downtown Tyler for more than six decades. Known as the gathering place for influential oil deals and the epicenter of East Texas social life, the hotel was a defining symbol of Tyler’s early prosperity before its demolition in 1985.
“Reimagining The Blackstone Hotel is both an honor and a tremendous responsibility for our team,” said Doyle A. Graham, Jr., President of Valencia Hotel Collection. “We are committed to creating a destination that revives the architectural spirit, glamour, and community energy that made the original Blackstone Hotel so beloved, while introducing a vibrant, modern experience that will anchor the continued transformation of downtown Tyler.”
Art Deco Meets East Texas Southern Charm
Blending Art Deco nostalgia with East Texas hospitality, Hotel Blackstone will introduce a bold, maximalist design aesthetic that reflects Tyler’s unique culture and Valencia Hotel Collection’s signature approach to independent, design-forward hotels. With 144 guestrooms, thoughtfully curated amenities, and world-class service, the hotel is poised to become Tyler’s premier lodging destination.
The property will feature 5,700 square feet of meeting and event space, including flexible pre-functional areas, making it the largest and most versatile hotel event venue in the market. Additional amenities will include:
- Outdoor swimming pool
- State-of-the-art fitness center
- Three-meal restaurant with exterior dining deck
- Signature bar and lounge
- Convenient location next to the new Smith County Courthouse and Tyler’s expanding downtown Square
“Hotel Blackstone will be unlike anything in the region. An anchor for business travelers, a hub for social gatherings, and a highly walkable destination for locals and visitors who want to experience a revitalized Tyler,” added Graham.
A Cornerstone in Tyler’s Ongoing Downtown Renaissance
Positioned diagonally from the new Smith County Courthouse and fronting the revitalized downtown Square, Hotel Blackstone is set to become a key driver of Tyler’s economic growth. Its opening will support greater vibrancy in the city center, attracting new visitors, meetings, and cultural activity.
Construction is anticipated to begin following final design approvals, with timelines and renderings to be announced soon.
