Feeding Heroes Who Keep Us Safe San Jose, CA
During the wild fires that started in mid August, hundreds of thousands of acres were burned and tens of thousands of residents were forced to evacuate their homes in the Bay Area. Although almost fully contained, our fearless fire fighters continue to keep us safe. During these times, Executive Chef Paul Rohadfox along with the Food and Beverage team, have provided meals to our local firefighters.

With deep gratitude, our team was able to provide a meal to our neighboring fire department. Our local fire department has taken great care of Hotel Valencia Santana Row and our community for years and continue to do so in these difficult times. Our team wanted to give them a special ‘thank you’ and was able to provide their team by having our amazing culinary staff prepare a full meal for them over a 3 week time period. It was so good to see them on our front drive. Great work by our San Jose Fire Department Engine 10!
Feed Maroon College Station, TX
In an effort to serve the student population in College Station, TX during COVID-19, two Valencia Hotel Group properties, The George and Cavalry Court, partnered with Dorm Dish to help Aggie students in need of a meal. Carlos Pernia, Director of Food and Beverage for The George and Cavalry Court hotels, said the idea for the Feed Maroon program sparked out of a simple conversation between himself, Brian Hall, founder of the nonprofit Friday Harbour, and Austin Fanning, founder of Dorm Dish. A GoFundMe was organized by Dorm Dish to help generate funds to provide these meals. In this partnership with the two Valencia Hotel Group properties, The George and Cavalry Court, Dorm Dish agreed to provide microwavable dinners to the students, with Valencia Group’s catering service providing lunch.
Feeding the Homeless Austin, TX
We are seeing with our own eyes that in a time of crisis, people naturally want to help and serve. We are playing witness to some of our own team members giving back to the communities where we are built as well as to our own associates. Chef Emily Hill of the Water Trough at Lone Star Court made over 100 meat & cheese sandwiches with other accompaniments to feed the homeless in downtown Austin after being inspired by her Pastor’s message.
Gift of Giving Package San Jose, CA
For the 2019 holiday season, Hotel Valencia Santana Row gave back to the local community with the Gift Of Giving Package by raising funds for The Family Supportive Housing Organization, which provides temporary housing and resources to families facing homelessness. Guests booking the package would receive a special rate, and 5% of that room rate was donated to the organization, resulting in a little over $4,000 raised. Rockin' The Courts
During the month of November, the three court hotels, by Valencia Hotel Group, including Lone Star Court in Austin, Cavalry Court in College Station, and Texican Court in Irving, participated in a crowdsourcing fundraiser called “Rockin’ the Courts.” This initiative was put in place to raise money for the well-known and adored rocking chairs at the court hotels to be donated to various organizations in each city where you can find a court hotel. By reaching out to loyal guests through GoFundMe and having specialty drinks in each of the bars where a portion of the proceeds went to the fundraiser, the first year proved to be a success.
With over $2700 raised, the money will be used to purchase rocking chairs for the benefit of the Ronald McDonald House in Austin, the Irving Family Advocacy Center in Irving, and the CHI St. Joseph Health in Bryan and Baylor Scott & White in College Station.
No Shave November
Each November for the past 5 years, (2014 – 2018) our hotels participated in No Shave November raising over $13,500 for the American Cancer Society. Each property selected two associates to throw away their razors for the month of November to raise awareness for cancer prevention. Valencia Hotel Group participants called on friends, family and industry partners to join in the fight against cancer and to chronicle their “growth.” Throughout the month, our boutique hotels arranged for pop up activities with 20% of sales from select food and beverage items benefitting the American Cancer Society. In true Valencia Hotel Group style, visitors saw a variety of limited availability specialty cocktails such as the Mustache Mule and Bearded Lady.
Denver-based designer Hannah Payne has built her budding apparel line on feminine, fashion forward pieces that empower customers with a premium fit and feel. A portion of every purchase from Luba directly goes towards the ongoing support of LOVE Foundation, a charity founded by Payne to create lasting change for women overcoming the cycle of domestic violence.
Crafted in New York and Los Angeles and carried in specialty boutiques throughout the country and online, Luba partnered with Valencia Hotel Group in April of 2018 with pop up shops in four Valencia Hotel Group properties, spanning from California to Texas. The April road show series unveiled immersive, one-day only Luba mini boutiques in the lobby lounges of San Jose, CA’s Hotel Valencia Santana Row, Houston’s Hotel Sorella, The George in College Station, TX and San Antonio’s Hotel Valencia Riverwalk. Over $800 was donated benefiting local women’s shelters in each city.
Dress For Success
Thanks to the generosity of our guests, summer was particularly rewarding for Valencia Hotel Group's portfolio of hotels. We asked our guests to "give us the shirt off your back" to benefit local community non-profit partners Dress for Success and Career Gear. Our guests generously gave over 1,200 pieces of men’s and women’s business attire, as well as a myriad of interview appropriate shoes and accessories; all of which were donated to deserving groups, whose goal is to empower low-income individuals to enter or return to the work force.
